Preschools in Varanasi

Most Varanasi preschools take children into playgroup at 2+ years and nursery at 3+ years, with the state cut-off at 31 March. The UP government has directed 100 percent enrolment of children who have completed three years in Balvatika and six years in Class 1. Under NEP 2020 the national direction is Class 1 at 6+, which keeps nursery firmly at 3+. If your child's birthday falls near the cut-off, ask the school about its relaxation policy before applying.

Keep the child's birth certificate, address proof such as Aadhaar or a rent agreement, passport-size photographs of the child and parents, and the immunisation record ready. Some schools also ask for parents' ID proof. Having one set of self-attested photocopies plus originals for verification makes school visits and form submissions much smoother during the busy September to December admission season.

A typical Varanasi preschool runs a morning session of about three hours, often 9:00 am to 12:00 noon, with playgroup batches shorter at around two hours. Daycare or after-school extensions can run to 6:00 pm for working parents. Summer heat pushes many schools to early-morning schedules, and timings are rarely negotiable, so factor the school's hours and your commute into the shortlist before you apply.
