Bengaluru is India's densest preschool market, thousands of centres, every national chain, and a strong independent Montessori tradition, so prices span a huge range and locality is destiny.
The 2025-26 bands
- Budget and neighbourhood preschools: Rs 50,000 to Rs 90,000 a year. Independent centres in outer localities and older neighbourhoods: Nagarbhavi, Ramamurthy Nagar, parts of Uttarahalli. Simple premises, often warm and perfectly good.
- Mid-range, most franchise territory: Rs 90,000 to Rs 1.8 lakh a year. Kidzee, EuroKids, Hello Kids, Bachpan and similar outlets across HSR, BTM, JP Nagar, Marathahalli, Hennur. Includes many decent independent Montessori houses.
- Premium: Rs 1.8 to Rs 3.5 lakh a year, with a top slice beyond that. Think NAFL/upmarket kindergartens, Kangaroo Kids, Maple Bear, Klay's bigger centres, Waldorf-inspired schools, and preschool wings of international K-12 schools in Whitefield, Indiranagar, Koramangala, Sarjapur Road and Hebbal.
Add-ons: admission fee Rs 15,000 to Rs 60,000 one-time; kit and materials Rs 8,000 to Rs 20,000; transport Rs 2,000 to Rs 4,000 a month. Full-day daycare adds Rs 8,000 to Rs 18,000 a month, and Bengaluru's tech workforce means the preschool-plus-daycare hybrid is more common here than anywhere in India.
Locality logic
Fees track office corridors and apartment prices. The Outer Ring Road tech belt (Bellandur, Sarjapur, Whitefield, HSR) and the old-money core (Indiranagar, Koramangala, Jayanagar) sit 30 to 60 percent above the same brands' outlets in Yelahanka, Electronic City's residential fringes, or Kengeri. The same franchise brand can differ by Rs 50,000 a year between two pin codes, which is a locality premium, not a quality difference.
Bengaluru-specific notes
- The June start: Karnataka's academic year begins in June; registration peaks January to March. Mid-year (September to November) entry is usually possible in this market because supply is deep.
- Montessori density: Bengaluru has more genuine, trained-teacher Montessori houses than any Indian city, often at mid-range prices. If the philosophy appeals to you, verify training (AMI/IMTC) and mixed-age classrooms, and you can find the real thing without paying premium-chain fees.
- Negotiation works: with this much supply, admission-fee waivers and sibling or corporate discounts (many centres run employer tie-ups with tech parks) are common. Always ask.
