Shortlisted a well-known chain preschool. Tuition quoted at ₹72k/year, then at admission they added ₹15k 'kit & activity fee', ₹3k uniform, ₹2k 'annual day contribution'. Total is 27% above the quoted fee. Is this standard practice everywhere or should I walk?

Sadly standard for chains, the kit fee partly goes to the franchisor, which is why centres can't waive it. What's NOT okay is discovering it at admission. Good centres disclose the all-in number on the first visit. Ask for the complete fee letter in writing before deciding.

We negotiated the uniform and annual day parts (paid actuals instead of flat fee) but the kit was fixed. Compare the all-in total across your shortlist, not the sticker price, the rankings often flip.
